What is organic farming?
Organic farming is a technique, which involves the cultivation of plants and rearing of animals in natural ways. This process involves the use of biological materials, avoiding synthetic substances to maintain soil fertility and ecological balance thereby minimizing pollution and wastage.
Advantages of Organic Farming
- Economical- In organic farming no8 expensive fertilizers(Urue,DAP.e.t.c), pesticides, HYV seeds are required for the plantation of crops. Therefore, no extra expense,indirectly profit.
- Huge Demand– There is a huge demand for the organic product in India and across the globe, generating more income through export.The farmers gets more income from organic farming with low investment.
- Nutritional- As compared to inorganic products, organic products are more nutritional, tasty,good for health and have more nutritional value.
- Environmental friendly- The way of organic farming is free from any type of chemical fertilizer and pesticides,So it doesn't harm the environment.
- Organic fertilizers work slowly. In order for organic fertilizers to work, the soil has to first break them down. This means that both the soil and the plants in it get the nutrition they need when they need it. Synthetic fertilizers, although speedy, often overfeed the plant, do nothing for the soil, and can damage plants by burning them.
- Organic fertilizers are easy to use.Organic fertilizers are very easy to use,anybody can apply organic fertilizers in the farm.
Disadvantages of Organic Farming
- Incompetent – The major issue of organic farming is the lack of Inadequate infrastructure and marketing of the product.
- Less production- The organic farming products are lesser in the initial years as compared to the chemical product. So, the farmers find it difficult to accommodate large scale production.
- Shorter shelf-life- Organic products have more flaws and shorter shelf life than the chemical product.
- Limited production- Off-season crops are limited and have fewer choices option in organic farming.
